Student Leaders

While Chi Alpha doesn't have official membership - students do choose to serve as a part of the student leadership team.  Currently there are nearly 80 student leaders giving oversight to Lifegroups and iTeams.  The path to becoming a student leader is: be active in a Lifegroup, take the Leadership Training Class (LTC).  Classes are offered in the Spring Semester either M/W or T/TH at 8am.  In the Spring semester applications will be available to apply for leadership - you will be interviewed by staff and student leaders and if affirmed you will serve the following school year.

This year Sophie Trosclair (left) from Houma is serving as the student president, Princess Vinnett (center) from New Orleans is the vice president, and Melody Derise (right) from New Orleans is the treasurer.

Chi Alpha

Chi Alpha is a Christian student organization at UL which began in 1970 at then USL.  The group began when a traveling evangelist from California was speaking at an area church and a member of the USL swim team, who was injured, after being prayed for was healed!  Needless to say the student and his friends were very excited and they strongly encouraged the evangelist Mike Michaelson to stay and start the Chi Alpha group.   Chi Alpha is a part of a national movement of student groups across the world!  You can go to www.ChiAlpha.com to find out more about the national organization.

Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship is a community of students earnestly following Jesus. We’re not a fraternity or a sorority (although we’re a great place to find brothers and sisters); rather, our name is Greek because the New Testament was written in Greek. It comes from 2 Corinthians 5:20 which says “we are therefore Christ’s (Chi) Ambassadors (Alpha).” We often abbreviate our name as XA.

Our Beliefs

Our beliefs can be summarized pretty simply:

  1. God is real.
  2. God has revealed Himself in Jesus.
  3. The Bible is God’s Word.
  4. God still does supernatural stuff.
  5. God ought to be the most important thing in every person’s life.

Charles Tillman Arena

The Charles Tillman Arena is a state of the art outdoor soccer arena built in honor of UL football great and Chi Alpha alumni Charles Tillman.  The arena is the size of a basketball court with hockey walls for a fast pace 5v5 game.  There are always tournaments being played as well as free nights.  It is also available for rent for private events - call 261-0028 for more information.

The Cafe

Café Chi Alpha is home to Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship and is a full-service coffee bar proudly brewing Starbucks® coffee.  We serve everthing you would find at a regular Starbucks including the signature drink a Frappuccino, but we can create just about anything you can imagine. We even serve smoothies! Our hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM. (Summer School hours are 9am to 4pm)

In addition to the coffee bar - all the pastoral staff have offices in the building.  If you would like to schedule an appointment with a staff member call 261-0028.

The Cafe' is a great place to hang out between classes, it features a library for serious study with free high speed internet, a game room to blow off a little energy playing foosball or ping pong, and two private prayer rooms upstairs available on a first come basis.  There is also outdoor patio space in front and side of the building and another pavillion next to the beach volleyball court to spend a little time with nature.

The Chi Alpha House

The Chi Alpha House located at 116 W St Mary Blvd currently serves as the community living center for Chi Alpha.  In addition to the house there is a six unit dorm located directly behind the house.  Currently there are 17 students that call the Chi Alpha House & Dorm home.  Everyone in the house has a weekly chore and they all take turns cooking a community meal throughout the week.  Everyone who lives there loves it!  Needless to say openings are not frequent - if you would like to be considered to live at Chi Alpha email campus pastor Eric Treuil at ET@LaChiAlpha.org to have your name on the waiting list.
